The lotus, known as the "Queen of Aquatic Plants," is an aquatic herbaceous plant with either a rhizome or a stolon. Its single leaves grow from the stem, with the petiole extending from beneath or above the water's surface. The lotus has medicinal properties, and all parts of the plant can be used to make both medicine and food, also believed to symbolize goodness and purity.
Concept of the Performance
This performance explores the lotus, a symbol of purity, goodness, and faith. Offering lotus flowers to monks or sacred objects is a common act of respect and devotion. Within Buddhist traditions, the lotus holds significant meaning. Notably, lotus-shaped krathongs are offered to seek forgiveness from the Goddess of Water, while lotus-shaped lanterns are floated into the night sky to honor ancestors.
