“Chalew,” a symbol of care for life and health.

The woven wood used in the medicine pot acts as a sacred amulet, believed to ward off evil spirits from the prepared medicine. This practice reflects a blend of traditional Thai medical knowledge, religion, and life philosophy passed down through generations.

In traditional Thai medicine, Chalew is used to seal the medicine pot, preventing it from being opened and causing the medicine to deteriorate—similar to how product bottles are sealed today. Currently, the ‘Chalew’ is featured in the logo of the Thai Traditional Medicine Organization and symbolizes the theme ‘Land of Immunity, Global Health destination’ at the Thailand Pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Japan.
