Intro: Story of the Dance of Reaping Rice
The Dance of Reaping Rice is a classic folk dance from rural communities in central Thailand, particularly in Phayuha Khiri District, Nakhon Sawan province, where most people were traditionally farmers. With a love for fun and a natural talent for composing rhyming verses, locals created this dance to reflect their way of life. Unlike other Thai dances known for their gracefulness, this dance emphasizes fun and features both "dancing" and "playing" together. Dancers hold a sickle in one hand and a harvested rice stalk in the other, which is why it is called the Dance of Reaping Rice.
Concept of the Performance
The Dance of Reaping Rice is a folk dance adapted to illustrate and teach the rice harvesting process and the way of life of Thai farmers through various movements.
